Album
Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 2, Vocalise. Get is no shortage of first-rate versions of the most popular of Rachmaninov's three symphonies in the CD catalogue, but this is a fine addition, distinguished by its silky, transparent string tone, perfectly etched woodwind solos and never-obtrusive brass, and by Fischer's perfectly natural unfolding of every musical paragraph. The Second Symphony has its longueurs, but Fischer keeps the music pressing forwards, never forgetting that there is a dark shadow behind even the most luscious melodies. Classical music. Album 2006 5 Songs. More By Budapest Festival Orchestra. Bartók : Piano Concertos Nos 1 - 3. Mendelssohn: Overture & Incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream. Dvorak: Cello Concerto, Tchaikovsky: Rococo Variations. Iván Fischer. 2 Vocalise. There can never be too many great recordings of Rachmaninov's Second Symphony. While not perhaps his greatest work - surely either The Bells or the Vespers has that honor - Rachmaninov's Second is a superbly composed, brilliantly colorful, and directly affecting work of Russian late romanticism and anyone who responds to Tchaikovsky's later symphonies will respond to Rachmaninov's Second. But while there can never be too many great recordings of the Second, most great recordings of the Second tend to sound alike. Bartók: Orchestral Music - Budapest Festival Orchestra, Ivan Fischer. So this is what we are sending today to everyone, whether you're in love, hoping to fall in love or healing from a heartbreak and even to those who do not believe in love. The Budapest Festival Orchestra Hungarian: Budapesti Fesztiválzenekar was formed in 1983 by Iván Fischer and Zoltán Kocsis, with musicians drawn from the cream of Hungary's younger players, as The Times put it. Its aim was to make the orchestra's concerts into significant events in Hungary's musical life, and to give Budapest a new symphony orchestra of international standing.
