I attended the same backwoods, cow town, jr/high school as these guys. They were a little older than me, but once they caught on that I was on the right track as far as musical interest, they took me under their wing. Besides being a good bunch of dudes, doing something completely out of the norm when it came to the local community standards, they were (and still are) a very talented group of individuals. I have demo tapes as far back as 1991 that were passed around school, dubbed for me by the band members, bought at one of the very few gigs they ever played, etc. Despite some of their perceived eccentricities when it comes to certain composition choices, instrument voicing, and the occasional discord, their ability to write powerful riffs, and song structure is undeniable. Because I know these guys personally, and their band lineup situation at the time of this recording, I also take into account that their original vocalist, as well as their bass player (who was, and is a machine all unto himself.... the guy added an element that couldn't be duplicated) WERE NOT available to contribute to the demo. In my opinion their absence was an unfortunate loss, as they both had a lot of talent to bring to the table. With that being said, I believe that the Knasick brothers did quite well with this release. The shoes of the other 2 members were not filled, but the show went on. What was lost with the absence of the other members was at least partially made up for with ingenuity, and creativity. Nathan had only recently purchased his first Roland keyboard, and went off the hook a little bit where in my opinion there could have been a better choice of chord phrasing. For me personally, Nathan's unique guitar riffs combined with Shaun's rock solid drumming is more than enough to make up for these minor details. I like the addition of the Dungeon Synth style songs during this incarnation of the band. Whether the guys were listening to old-school Death Metal, NWOBHM, Punk Rock, or the many bands coming out of the Norwegian Black Metal scene at the time, it didn't matter. Diabolisis always made it a point to strive for their own unique style, and identity no matter what else was going on in any scene, in any area, at any given time. Good, bad, or indifferent, you'll be hard pressed to find another band that sounds like them. For me thats what matters, and makes all the difference. As I mentioned before, I have at least a sample of everything these guys did from 91, until their most recent project I can find online, "Von Knasick". I'm sure there were other recordings that the band kept to themselves, and never saw the light of day beyond that, but out of everything in my collection, this has to be my favorites, for its raw aesthetics alone. Nathan gave me a copy of this cassette some time around 1997, and it was destroyed in a house fire about 10 years ago. Not only was it one of my favorites in my collection, but it also had great nostalgic, and sentimental value to me. Nathan, and I had even made plans to rerecord this album, and put it out as a split between my band and theirs. I recorded my share of the songs, and still have them. They were never released, or even shown to anyone outside of the Diabolisis members themselves, so that I could get their opinion of my rendition of their songs. It has been a long time since I've been able to enjoy this cassette, and an even longer time since I've been in contact with the guys. I thought I would never have a copy of "At My Funeral" again, and chalked it up to an irreplaceable loss. I was amazed that I was able to find this one copy, and it just arrived in the mail today (8/10/19). To make a long, review/comment/bio, just a little longer, I will wrap it up with these 2 things; 1. If you're the type of person who likes to add music to your collection that is truly unique, and you EVER get a chance to pick this cassette up, do yourself that justice. The originality, and breath of fresh air it has to offer, compared to all the copy cat albums that were coming out back then is alone, enough to justify owning it. 2. Being able to add this to my collection once again has lit the fire under my ass that I've been needing to contact my old friends. Who knows... maybe some day I'll have the honor of re-releasing a discography that deserves to see the light of day... maybe even put out my rendition of their songs as a tribute, and a token of appreciation to a group of small town country kids, who embodied the true definition of what Metal, and outsider music in general was, and is meant to be. CHEERS!

p.s. Nathan eventually contributed a track to the 2002 "Visions-A Tribute to Burzum" CD. See if you can figure out which project is his. If you're looking for a few guys who have continuously blazed trail in the world of underground music, they have a lot of dots to connect out there.
